Choriner Strabe 53 residential building in Urbanes Wohnen is the fourteenth article on projects from practice. Choriner Strabe is a street in the heart of Berlin city. The building is located in a block of residential buildings including a street façade without a setback and a rear entrance from an open space connecting all the block buildings by green space and footpaths. The block buildings are of multi-density height and differ in architectural style from block to block. The buildings are of pitched roofs in general, some of the building architecture is from the German Renaissance style, others have some details of this style and typical windows. Limited building’s architecture is from the modern architectural style. See Figure 1, a site view from Google showing the open space and building layout of the block on Choriner Street.

The building has a modern architectural design style including a ground floor plus six floors. The building function is a residential building. The front façade which is on the main road of Choriner Street is a modern architecture style design including using a different color theme in the elevation and open glass windows and glass railing. Services rooms and blocks are on the ground floor. The total build-up area of the building is 794 m2. See Figure 2, 3 the front elevation and rear elevation of the building.

The flats on all the floors have direct access and a view of the front street by the open glass windows. The rear elevation gives an open access view to all the flats on all the floors to the rear open space and green space and footpath. The design considers a sustainable approach to building architecture of having maximum direct light from the exterior on the two sides. Ventilation and fresh air are provided from external large-scale windows. Views are available from two sides one on the rear opening to the backside garden. The architecture considered comfortable spaces as the ground floor plan of each flat is 145 m2  of open space and a bedroom flat.

The modern architectural principles are reflected in many places of the architectural design of this residential building. The strip glass window, the strip opening on the first floor, the open plan system, the roof terrace and the garden, using simple colors and materials, direct views to external space, double space volume rooms, and a modular space unit for the function, elevation architecture design.

The architecture of this building is of three apartments on six floors. Each apartment is composed of two stories of open double-volume space for living and hall areas. The first apartment and the second one has direct access to the rear garden space from a vertical circulation element. The third apartment has its own access to a roof terrace garden and open space. The interior of all the building designs simulates the modern architectural style theme of less is more. All the interior finishes are of simple material of wooden flooring, walls are of simple painting color mostly white. The service areas are also of simple ceramic tiles and kitchen appliances are of steel material, external windows are from aluminum glass windows. The interior architecture of the modern style is composed of a unified color theme, and flooring material, services areas material, and other openings and windows materials give the internal space an elegant interior look and comfortable spaces to live in and use. See Figure 7 a sample of the interior of the living area and the staircase wooden material.

This architectural design project is one of many modern architecture style projects whether in Germany, Spain, Czech, or other European countries that reflect modern architectural principles.
