Am Friedrichshain 25 residential building Berlin is the forty-four article on architecture projects from practice. Am Friedrichshain 25 is a street in the heart of Berlin city. The building is located in a block of residential buildings including a street façade without a setback and a rear entrance from an open space connecting all the block buildings by green space and footpaths and opposite an inner-city central park. The block buildings are of multi-density height and differ in architectural style from block to block. The buildings are of pitched roofs in general, some of the building architecture is from the German Renaissance style, others have some details of this style and typical windows. Limited building’s architecture is from the modern architectural style. See Figure 1, a site view from Google showing the open space and building layout of the block on Am Friedrichshain 25.
The building has a modern architectural design style including a ground floor plus six floors. The building function is a residential building. The front façade which is on the main road of Am Friedrichshain is a modern architectural style design including using a one-color theme in the elevation and open glass windows and steel railing. Services rooms and blocks are on the ground floor. The total build-up area of the building is 1633 m2. See Figure 2, 3 the front elevation and rear elevation of the building.
The flats on all the floors have direct access and a view of the front street by the open glass windows. The rear elevation gives an open access view to all the flats on all the floors to the rear open space and green space and footpath. The design considers a sustainable approach to building architecture of having maximum direct light from the exterior on the two sides. Ventilation and fresh air are provided from external large-scale windows. Views are available from two sides one on the rear opening to the backside garden. Adding to that the strip window facades open to the central park opposite the building.
The modern architectural principles are reflected in many places of the architectural design of this residential building. The strip glass window, the strip opening on the typical floors, the open plan system, using simple colors and materials, direct views to external space, double space volume rooms, and an open plan modular space unit for the function, elevation architecture design.
The architecture of this building is of several apartments on six floors. Each floor is composed of two apartments of open space for living and hall areas. The ground floor plan is composed of open-plan apartments with some adjacent services, the open corridor to the backside garden space, and vertical circulation to all floors. See Figure 4, the ground floor plan of the Am Friedrichshain 25 residential building.
The typical floors from the first floor to the fourth floor are of similar architectural design layout. The central offset part includes the corridor of the entrances to the apartments from the two sides. The internal layouts are of the modern architecture style functional design but in a more creative way by including artistic wall design. The floor plans when viewed in the plan view it look like a painting. See Figure 5, the typical floor plans of the building.
The building’s architectural design in terms of architecture layout is similar on all floors but the last two floors include one of the modern architectural characteristics of having a double volume and access to the upper flat level from the lower level. The last floor, the sixth floor, was designed by the architecture firm to be the living and kitchen area which has the maximum views of the open park and backside garden space. See Figure 6, 5th, and 6th-floor plans of the Am Friedrichshain 25 residential building.
The interior of all the building designs simulates the modern architectural style theme of less is more. All the interior finishes are of simple material of wooden flooring, walls are of simple painting color mostly white. The service areas are also of simple ceramic tiles and kitchen appliances are of steel material, external windows are from aluminum glass windows. The interior architecture of the modern style is composed of a unified color theme, and flooring material, services areas material, and other openings and windows materials give the internal space an elegant interior look and comfortable spaces to live in and use. See Figure 7 a sample of the interior of the living area and the staircase wooden material.
This architectural design project is one of many modern architecture style projects whether in Germany, Spain, Czech, or other European countries that reflect modern architectural principles.
